We need uniform protection of traditional marriage. You can't have different definitions on something as fundamental as marriage. The Marriage Protection Amendment is the only solution to this problem.
What is the good of drawing conclusions from experience? I don't deny we sometimes draw the right conclusions but don't we just as often draw the wrong ones?
