Marimba is much more of a wood-type experience and there is no real possibility of getting a dry sound and getting that contrast in the same way that you can in a vibraphone.
There does not exist a category of science to which one can give the name applied science. There are science and the applications of science bound together as the fruit of the tree which bears it.
