There's a unique bond of trust between readers and authors that I don't believe exists in any other art form as a reader I trust a novelist to give me his or her best effort however flawed.
Two qualities are indispensable: first an intellect that even in the darkest hour retains some glimmerings of the inner light which leads to truth and second the courage to follow this faint light wherever it may lead.
