Industrialization based on machinery already referred to as a characteristic of our age is but one aspect of the revolution that is being wrought by technology.

Technology has made it much easier to make and manipulate music. Studio-driven machine-driven music does not always transcend into being a good live act. Many current acts are great live but many cannot cut it live. The music is not organic.

Well another market is being created now out of Internet technology.

But now with technology I could sit down and do a bunch of character drawings and scan them into a computer and the computer using my exact style could bring it into life where it would have been edited by various human beings before.

The moment of drifting into thought has been so clipped by modern technology. Our lives are filled with distraction with smartphones and all the rest. People are so locked into not being present.

I mean when you get down to very low numbers of nuclear weapons and you contemplate going to zero how do you deal with the reality of that technology being available to almost any country that seeks to pursue it? And what conditions do you put in place?

But some great records are are being made with today's technology and there are still great artists among us. Likewise there are artists today who are so reliant on modern technology they wouldn't have emerged when recording was more organic.

In my mind I needed a symbol of today's technology and I realized that what I wanted to photograph was the Space Shuttle. And so that's where Places of Power came into being.

We've been co-evolving with our technology for a hundred thousand years. Human beings and the technology we make were always inseparable. We're finally coming into this moment where it's coming inside our body for the first time in history.

Every time somebody tries to go in and reinvent what we do it always ends up being more about technology and sets and flash and dash forgetting the main thing which is interesting people saying interesting important things.

I see technology as being an extension of the human body.

Generally what people tend to underestimate is the cyborg nature of Groupon. We are a company that has the DNA of being both a technology company and a heavily operational company.

Technologists provide tools that can improve people's lives. But I want to be clear that I don't think technology by itself improves people's lives since often I'm criticized for being too pro-technology. Unless there's commensurate ethical and moral improvements to go along with it it's for naught.

I'd like people to be educated on the voting machines making sure that our democracy isn't being hijacked by computer technology. There's no reason there can't be a paper trail on those machines.

I love what the Valley does. I love company building. I love startups. I love technology companies. I love new technology. I love this process of invention. Being able to participate in that as a founder and a product creator or as an investor or a board member I just find that hugely satisfying.

An awful lot of successful technology companies ended up being in a slightly different market than they started out in.

Social technology gives leaders a vital new platform with which to connect their companies to the myriad stakeholders who have an interest in their well being.

It is questionable if all the mechanical inventions yet made have lightened the day's toil of any human being.

The newest computer can merely compound at speed the oldest problem in the relations between human beings and in the end the communicator will be confronted with the old problem of what to say and how to say it.

Cyberspace. A consensual hallucination experienced daily by billions of legitimate operators in every nation by children being taught mathematical concepts.

My mother a teacher encouraged me to use my creativity as an actual way to make a living and my father a Mississippi physician did two things. First he taught me that all human beings should be treated equally because no one is better than anyone else and he never pressured me to become a doctor.

I stopped and gazed on the little dull man who was being paid to be a teacher of teachers. I turned and walked to the door slammed it closed with a bang and broken glass crashed to the floor. There was uproar behind me in the class which did not interest me at all.

I was terrified of being a teacher. To stand in front of a classroom the responsibility is boggling. Imagine! Standing in front of people!

I loved almost everything about being a teacher but I was an unusual teacher.
