Mr. Speaker I rise today in support of the definition of a marriage as between one man and one woman.

I rise today in support of Bill C-38 the Civil Marriage Act. I rise in support of a Canada in which liberties are safeguarded rights are protected and the people of this land are treated as equals under the law.

It is a fact that all women contribute more to marriage than men for the most part they have to change their place of living their method of work a great many women today changing their occupation entirely on marriage and they must even change their name.

I am much more open to plural marriage than I was before and I now support it in certain situations. I do believe it is right for some people. But our example in America today is gross abuse - I can't support it in fundamentalist compounds.

Women today have more of an overview of their lives and how marriage is or is not a part of it.

Feminism is dated? Yes for privileged women like my daughter and all of us here today but not for most of our sisters in the rest of the world who are still forced into premature marriage prostitution forced labor - they have children that they don't want or they cannot feed.

Culture what you believe what you value how you live matters. Now as fundamental as these principles are they may become topics of democratic debates from time to time so it is today with the enduring institution of marriage. Marriage is a relationship between a man and a woman.

May we not succumb to thoughts of violence and revenge today but rather to thoughts of mercy and compassion. We are to love our enemies that they might be returned to their right minds.

I love those who do not know how to live for today.

Today is life-the only life you are sure of. Make the most of today. Get interested in something. Shake yourself awake. Develop a hobby. Let the winds of enthusiasm sweep through you. Live today with gusto.

My advice to people today is as follows: if you take the game of life seriously if you take your nervous system seriously if you take your sense organs seriously if you take the energy process seriously you must turn on tune in and drop out.

Success comes from taking the initiative and following up... persisting... eloquently expressing the depth of your love. What simple action could you take today to produce a new momentum toward success in your life?

Beginning today treat everyone you meet as if they were going to be dead by midnight. Extend to them all the care kindness and understanding you can muster and do it with no thought of any reward. Your life will never be the same again.

Today more than ever before life must be characterized by a sense of Universal responsibility not only nation to nation and human to human but also human to other forms of life.

All life demands struggle. Those who have everything given to them become lazy selfish and insensitive to the real values of life. The very striving and hard work that we so constantly try to avoid is the major building block in the person we are today.

Today corruption has won and justice has lost. I brought corruption cases in good faith involving powerful people and the political and legal establishment blatantly covered up and retaliated by targeting my law license.

Today the people from my State of Tennessee would listen to this debate or even talk about a reference to God on our money or in the Halls of Congress or in our Pledge and say please let common sense and logic win the day and prevail versus legal mumbo jumbo.

Pop songs are not as graceful as they used to be. Performers today haven't gone through the regimen of learning how to write. And of course everyone wants to own copyrights.

Oprah was not somebody who was telling us what to do she wasn't really teaching us like so many people we see today. With Oprah she was learning and we were learning with her. And I think that's really was the seed that was planted for all of us to just hang in there with her.

Today when I think about diversity I actually think about the word 'inclusion.' And I think this is a time of great inclusion. It's not men it's not women alone. Whether it's geographic it's approach it's your style it's your way of learning the way you want to contribute it's your age - it is really broad.

Our libraries are valuable centers of education learning and enrichment for people of all ages. In recent years libraries have taken on an increasingly important role. today's libraries are about much more than books.

In the past I had my idols but today I enjoy learning from all the soccer I watch.

The battle was first waged over the right of the Negro to be classed as a human being with a soul later as to whether he had sufficient intellect to master even the rudiments of learning and today it is being fought out over his social recognition.

Again the American people expect us to do what they are doing. It's tightening the belt it's learning how to do more with less. That's a reality today and we've got to do that in order to get the private sector growing.
