I loved Alien and I loved Carrie and I loved The Exorcist - those were big movies for me. They were just brilliantly done and unusual and they all took horror to some new place.

I knew I had to get out of Boston and stop making movies there at least for one movie otherwise no one would ever consider me for a movie that took place south of Providence.

Well Toronto I consider to be the birthplace of my films. I've made three films and this is the third one to premiere here in the same theater on the same day at the same time - they are my audience. They're the people that I think about while I'm writing directing and editing. I specifically make movies for them.

I made that decision back in 1985. I was out here getting certified in SCUBA with Garcia in Kona and I thought to myself this is a place to wake up in in the morning.

I remember we woke up one morning at Denny's house and John Phillips called. He said you guys okay? We said yeah what's wrong what's going on? He said well everybody's dead over at Sharon's house at Terry Melcher's place.

I like to be busy and I like to have places to go in the morning when I get up.

We were making new ones the second year. We were in syndication the second year. So we were on Saturday nights prime time every morning and then they put it on Sunday evenings too. So it was all over the place.

I have got up at truly deplorable hours in the morning to confront Vancouver's Jack Webster on television because I have been told that is the place to get exposure for ideas.

Holiday? Is like what? I'm a hyperactive girl so it may be boring for me to be on the beach doing nothing. I just need to find a place for three weeks and work but sleep in the morning maybe write a little bit have a glass of red wine. That's my perfect holiday.

One's age should be tranquil as childhood should be playful. Hard work at either extremity of life seems out of place. At midday the sun may burn and men labor under it but the morning and evening should be alike calm and cheerful.

So when bands work with me and it's 10 o'clock usually you'd have to be getting out of the studio we could go on until 2 in the morning cause it's my place!

It's fairness to say those who work hard get up in the morning cut their cloth - in other words 'we can only afford to have one or two children because we don't earn enough'. They pay their taxes and they want to know that the same kind of decision-making is taking place for those on benefits.

'The Panorama' is also the last place anywhere in New York where the World Trade Center still stands whole as it stood in the early morning of September 11. I can also see the corner where I saw the first tower fall and howled out loud. Seeing the buildings again here is uplifting healing.

And if small businesspeople say they made it on their own all they are saying is that nobody else worked seven days a week in their place. Nobody showed up in their place to open the door at five in the morning. Nobody did their thinking and worrying and sweating for them.

To give money to a woman - and here I must speak as a man - is to deny her special quality her irreplaceability and reduce her unique amiability to a commodity. Money takes away her name while transforming her lover into a nameless customer of a market of appetites.

People assume I'm out there having this great life but money doesn't erase the pain. When you're young you barrel through life making choices without thinking of repercussions. A few years down the line you wake up in a certain place and wonder how the hell you got there.

France is a place where the money falls apart in your hands but you can't tear the toilet paper.

Look we know we screwed up when we were in the majority. We fell in love with power. We spent way too much money - especially on earmarks. There was too much corruption when we ran this place. We were guilty. And that's why we lost.

Those whose life is long still strive for gain and for all mortals all things take second place to money.

Don't bring your need to the marketplace bring your skill. If you don't feel well tell your doctor but not the marketplace. If you need money go to the bank but not the marketplace.

A fool and his money are lucky enough to get together in the first place.
