Patriotism in America as I understand it is a matter of suffering when the country fails to live up to its promises or actively betrays them.

True patriotism isn't cheap. It's about taking on a fair share of the burden of keeping America going.

The higher American patriotism on the other hand combines loyalty to historical tradition and precedent with the imaginative projection of an ideal national Promise.

America beats on you so hard the whole time. You are constantly being pummeled by other people's rights and their sense of patriotism.

It seems that American patriotism measures itself against an outcast group. The right Americans are the right Americans because they're not like the wrong Americans who are not really Americans.

The values the programs the formula the determination and the patriotism responsible for America's past success are still here to be tapped.

There's intense national feeling in America that could be called patriotism.

The mobilisation which Bush has been able to perform since 11 September 2001 has to be fought - at least by Americans - in the name of a wise honourable and democratic patriotism.

Unfortunately after Sept. 11 there was an outburst in America of intense suffering and patriotism and the Bush administration was very shrewd and effective in painting anyone who disagreed with the policies as unpatriotic or even traitorous.

Intellectually I know that America is no better than any other country emotionally I know she is better than every other country.

Liberals become indignant when you question their patriotism but simultaneously work overtime to give terrorists a cushion for the next attack and laugh at dumb Americans who love their country and hate the enemy.

Patriotism is easy to understand in America. It means looking out for yourself by looking out for your country.

The patience of the American public with dilatory diplomatic delays will be very limited.

Americans have less and less patience for the intrusive and divisive moral scolds who thrived in the bubbles of the Clinton and Bush years.

Is the patience of the American people that long suffering? Is there no outrage left in the country?

And we ask the American people to play an important part of our layered defense. We ask for cooperation patience and a commitment to vigilance in the face of a determined enemy.

I'm hosting weekend retreats all over America. It is like a 24-hour slumber party for moms. We laugh eat play games get massages win prizes talk about parenting and even cry a bit.

Most American children suffer too much mother and too little father.

Compared to America or Europe God isn't a big part of our lives here. I don't know anyone here who goes to church when he's had a rough divorce or is going through depression. We go out into nature instead.

It's not in our nature. Americans have never been a people that drive through a nice neighborhood and say 'Oh I hate the people who live in these nice houses.'

We are a people that have always celebrated other people's success so long as we always had the opportunity to meet that success ourselves. That is the American nature. That is the American character. That is one of the things that makes us different from the rest of the world. And I'm afraid we could lose that or are on the verge of losing that.

Nature is indifferent to the survival of the human species including Americans.

I know I'm not known as method. By nature I'm not a brooder. What I continue to use is a mixture of the English school which is traditionally outside-in and the more American way of working from the inside out.

America is still mostly xenophobic and racist. That's the nature of America I think.
