I decided to devote my life to telling the story because I felt that having survived I owe something to the dead. and anyone who does not remember betrays them again.

Are you kidding? I'm a terrible cook but John is a really great one. Literally I never cook. The whole time we were dating I prepared two officially romantic meals. Both of them were such disasters that he begs me never to go into the kitchen again.

At the time that I knew them they were not living together. They began dating again after their divorce so I didn't really see fighting.

I wanted to travel with my dad to be close to him again. Having babies and raising my own family took so much of my time I didn't have a chance to be with him very often.

Everybody always wants to rebel against their parents' music but nobody listened to music louder than my dad.

I lost my dad way too early and it was agonisingly awful. I missed him so much and I hated knowing that I could never again pick up the phone to tell him about my day.

My dad said 'The thing that I was told that was really helpful was that I mustn't be afraid of the things I was afraid of when I was five years old'. The shock of his childhood had put him in this defensive crouch against the world and he needed to know that he had a nice wife and kids and it wasn't the same any more.

My dad's a doctor and when I was 8 I went to one of his medical conferences where they were demonstrating laser surgery on a chicken. I was so mad that a chicken had to die I never ate meat again.

My dad got me a huge board when I was little. He loves to surf. He suited me up and sent me out on this huge wave. I went under and when I came out and the board hit me in the face. So I said I never wanted to do this again. I stayed away until I was 13.

A father is always making his baby into a little woman. And when she is a woman he turns her back again.

I love revolutionaries who have the courage to stand up against the status quo. They're always misunderstood but they're the ones who are standing up for human rights.

A leader must have the courage to act against an expert's advice.

Unjust. How many times I've used that word scolded myself with it. All I mean by it now is that I don't have the final courage to say that I refuse to preside over violations against myself and to hell with justice.

But courage which goes against military expediency is stupidity or if it is insisted upon by a commander irresponsibility.

Courage and conviction are powerful weapons against an enemy who depends only on fists or guns. Animals know when you are afraid a coward knows when you are not.

Let's drink to the spirit of gallantry and courage that made a strange Heaven out of unbelievable Hell and let's drink to the hope that one day this country of ours which we love so much will find dignity and greatness and peace again.

Success is not measured by what you accomplish but by the opposition you have encountered and the courage with which you have maintained the struggle against overwhelming odds.

History despite its wrenching pain cannot be unlived but if faced with courage need not be lived again.

Again like I said we're not trying to censor anyone. If you think drugs are cool fine. Make that movie. We are not going to stop you or try to stop you but we would encourage other people to be a bit more responsible about their portrayal of drug usage.

I already have legitimacy as a filmmaker and now I'm trying to do stuff that's just fun. Until I find a cool tangible subject again that I want to tackle.

We got to do a few things with President Clinton. To be invited to Washington again to play with Ashanti and all those other cool people there in front of President Bush and the rest of the world feels awesome. I'm really looking forward to going.

I like rhythmic things that butt up against each other in a cool kind of way.

It's the same with visual arts you have some really cool wonderful striking images that make you think and then again you have wonderful striking images that just take you away from the existing world for a second. And I like the latter a bit more.
