As you know the thing that I know the least about is the topic of sports.
I don't put anything in front of taking ski racing and sports seriously.
As a sophomore I wanted to play varsity in three sports. And I accomplished that. It was a great feat that year and something I held special. I wanted to bring a championship team to Oceanside High School and it happened. It was a great year that I will never forget.
I find interesting characters or lessons that resonate with people and sometimes I write about them in the sports pages sometimes I write them in a column sometimes in a novel sometimes a play or sometimes in nonfiction. But at the core I always say to myself 'Is there a story here? Is this something people want to read?'
I don't think there's anything that is a greater area of discrimination against women today than the fact that nowhere in the world is there a female role model in team sports that more than half of a general audience would recognize.
I only have two things in my life my family and work. If there's any time left over then I play sports.
I don't want to have to say Honey you know could you turn off the sports channel because I'm not a big sports fan and I don't love the television being on just for the sake of turning on. I'd like turning on for some thing specific.
I am so fidgety - I swear I have ADD - and I always need to be doing something or being outside just playing sports.
I liked the game I enjoyed the game and the game fed me enough and gave me enough rewards to reinforce that this is something that I should spend time doing and that I could possibly make a priority in my life versus other sports.
I'm not into extreme sports or something. I just live a quiet life.
But sports photography isn't something you just pick up overnight. You can't do it once a year for fun and expect to do a good job. And I take pride in what I do.
I've aways been good at picking up certain things like sports and dancing.
My chief gifts are - naturally good at all sports with a raw talent for pretty much everything which if nurtured could develop into improper talent.
I'm nothing more than a sports slave.
Sports without music it's nothing but a game. Music adds the emotion.
Team sports aren't my thing. I find it easier to pick something up if I can do it at my own speed. And you don't need a partner to go running you don't need a particular place like in tennis just a pair of trainers.
I never really participated in specific sports or anything but once I hit 40 I started to get a little bit more active and began swimming more.
The biggest lesson from Africa was that life's joys come mostly from relationships and friendships not from material things. I saw time and again how much fun Africans had with their families and friends and on the sports fields they laughed all the time.
I had fun pretending to be a sportscaster. People always think that was a down thing for me. I had the best job in sports broadcasting for two years.
There are two things that come very easily to me: rooting for New York sports teams and making mistakes.
I don't necessarily love the sports per se I love the stories behind them. Also in a kind of perverse way I like to study what it does to us why we care so much. It's caring about something that's utterly meaningless.
I would love to be associated with some sports organization. I was a journalism major. That's kind of intriguing to do something in the political-commentary arena.
I'm not good at anything except writing jokes. I wasn't good at sports I wasn't good at anything artsy ever. I think there was a real worry for a while about what I would be good at. I was just this chubby little Indian kid who looked like a nerd.
Don't sell yourself short because without that you can't go far in life because after sports the only thing you know is sports and you can't do anything else with that.
