Americans have the right and advantage of being armed - unlike the citizens of other countries whose governments are afraid to trust the people with arms.

I travel the world and I'm happy to say that America is still the great melting pot - maybe a chunky stew rather than a melting pot at this point but you know what I mean.

I travel abroad constantly on book promotion and research and the Internet is invaluable to me for accessing U.K. news in places such as America which most of the time hasn't heard of England.

But as far as being an American and loving this country and getting a chance to travel across it every day and meeting people on the road and folks in the military I love this country on so many different levels.

If you travel around America you see different sections of highways donated by this or that person and that's a slow beginning of what may end up being a situation common in the Third World: some sections of highways in wealthy areas are beautifully maintained and other parts are just dirt-strewn potholes.

Automation and technology would be a great boon if it were creative if there were more leisure more opportunity to engage in raising a family providing guidance to the young all the stuff we say we need. America will work if we're all in it together. It'll work when there's a shared sense of destiny. It can be done!
